How to Use ANY App with Apple CarPlay

Apple CarPlay is an extremely useful iPhone feature for drivers. It allows you to use car-friendly apps on your phone while driving, all through the cars head unit display. The problem, however, is that very few apps are actually compatible with CarPlay, meaning you can only use a fraction of your phone’s features in the car.

However, it is possible to get pretty much any app on your phone working through CarPlay using the jailbreak tweak CarBridge. Created by Alex Stich (leftyfl1p), CarBridge allows any app to be displayed through CarPlay, as well as having additional features such as the ability to add more rows to the icon display. While it’s not free, at $4.99 it’s hardly expensive! CarBridge can be downloaded from the Chariz repo using either Cydia or Sileo.

Requirements & Notes

• This works with iOS 10, iOS 11 and iOS 12
• A jailbroken iPhone is required (see my guides here)
• While most apps will work quite well, some may have issues or not work at all.

Installation

1. Open Cydia or Sileo on your jailbroken iPhone.
2. Tap the ‘Search’ tab at the bottom, then search for ‘CarBridge’.
3. Open the CarBridge tweak page (the name should be coloured blue).
4. Tap the $4.99 price to open the payment page, then pay for the tweak.
5. Once purchased, you can install CarBridge by tapping the ‘Get’ or ‘Install’ button. When the install completes, respring your device.
6. CarBridge should now be installed.

Usage – Using Any App With CarPlay

1. Open the Settings app and scroll down until you find CarBridge.
2. In the CarBridge settings menu, tap the ‘Bridged Applications’ option. In here you can choose which apps you want to use with CarPlay, as well as the prefered orientation.
3. Once an app is enabled, it will appear in CarPlay immediately.

Usage – Mirroring Your iPhone Screen to CarPlay

1. Open the Settings app and scroll down until you find CarBridge.
2. In the CarBridge settings menu, toggle the ‘Show Portal App’ switch.
3. Within CarPlay there should now be a ‘Portal’ app. Open this to mirror your iPhone screen to your CarPlay display.
